In 1957, a group of American military families began a home group to meet the spiritual needs of soldiers serving in the Stuttgart area. This group grew over time to the point that we constituted ourselves as Neckar Valley Baptist Mission in 1960, and were accepted as a member of the Association of Baptists in Continental Europe (now called the
International Baptist Convention).
For the next quarter century, Neckar Valley Baptist met together in a local German Baptist church until our numbers and space requirements necessitated a building of our own. Also the church intentionally decided to broaden our ministry to reach people of all nations through the Word of God in the English language.
After years of prayer, faith, and planning, the new building was erected in 1989, and as a church we renamed ourselves International Baptist Church of Stuttgart (IBC) to reflect our vision to reach the lost in the Stuttgart area.
Since moving into the new facility, IBC has continued to grow both spiritually and numerically. To accomodate this growth, we have had to expand and add ministries, lease additional space nearby, and hire on more staff.
In addition, we are planting a new German-speaking church in a suburb of Stuttgart in a cooperative effort with other German Baptist churches in the Stuttgart/Baden-Wüttemberg region.
Today, IBC stands at a crossroads as we prepare for the next steps God would have us take to fulfill our calling to the Stuttgart community.
